Brownie Day

KU’s Student Chapter of the Water Environment Federation and the American Water Works Association (A.W.E.) assisted in the inaugural "Brownie Day" at KU's School of Engineering. Over 30 young girl scouts earned their “Wonders of Water” badge by participating in activities and touring labs focused on water and the environment. Dr. Sturm and her students led the troops in a demonstration of how bacteria purify wastewater and how chemical coagulation can be used to remove algae and organics during water treatment.

KU Center for Design Research - Association for Water & Environment Event

In November 2011, AWE visited KU’s Center for Design Research. This is a sustainable building that KU’s Architecture students designed and built. The building includes a green wall for air filtration, a green roof and rainwater harvesting system, and other energy efficiency features.
